An Important Update from Glenn Peterson
To our friends of the Canada Covenant:
Richard Bach writes, "The bond that links your true family is not one of blood, but of respect and joy in each others' life." The Apostle Paul wrote, “Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.” For the last 6 and a half years, it has been my privilege and joy to serve you as President/Superintendent. For the last 30 years, it has been my great joy to call you colleagues, family, and Mission Friends - we have shared not only the Gospel, but our lives together as well. Because of this, it is with mixed emotions that I share that this past Friday, I agreed to continue serving our shared mission together as the Senior Director of Church Planting for our entire movement, the Evangelical Covenant Church. I will be concluding this season of serving as President/Superintendent of the Canada Covenant at the end of November.
Since my days as a student at Covenant Bible College, I have been convinced in heart, call, and affirmation of the Body of Christ that the Canada Covenant was my home and the space God had invited me to grow, serve, and lead. My deep desire has been and still remains to do what is best for the mission of the Canada Covenant and our shared call to serve God across Canada and around the world. It has been a surprising, significant, and Spirit led process for Bekah, our family, and I to arrive at a point of transition from our call here.
There are so many things to celebrate and give thanks for over our shared years together. I hope for many more celebrations to come. Whatever’s been good, let’s give thanks. Wherever my leadership has let you or the community down, I pray there can be grace and forgiveness. Bekah, Greta, Jonas, Soren, Ella, and I love you and care about how we move forward together. Our great hope at every step of our journey with you has been to invite and model health, integrity, character, honesty and intentionality in following Jesus. This remains my commitment to you.
The Canada Covenant Leadership Board meets October 18-20. Transition plans and details will be finalized and communicated then. A hard copy of this letter will be mailed to your church as well. I look forward to seeing many of you at our upcoming fall retreats.
Please do not hesitate to contact me, or Chairperson, Jenell Pluim (jenell.pluim@gmail.com) with questions or concerns.
May God grace us all with wisdom and insight as we live into this transition.
All love.
Glenn Peterson
